Norwegian beef cattle are raised under natural conditions without the use of growth-enhancing products or other extraneous supplements to their forage diet. This ensures healthy meat products of high quality for the consumer.
Most Norwegian beef cows are maintained outside in the fresh air throughout the entire year. The result of this management is animals with good body condition that are more resistant to sickness, stress and that calve more easily.

The genetic material on which the Norwegian beef cattle population is based was imported from the best animals of the various breeds throughout the world. We have further improved these breeds in Norway through a rigorous national selection program. There are bulls whose results in our test station rival the best of those throughout the world. Some of our bulls have achieved a growth rate of more than 2 kg/ day throughout the test period. The Norwegian Beefbreeders Association establishes, maintains and works toward further enhancement of modern breeding programs for each of the different breeds of beef cattle in Norway.
Beef production in Norway is increasing rapidly and number of registered animals is increasing each year. Thus, the Norwegian Beefbreeders Association is continually challenged to effectively increase the genetic quality of the cattle being produced.
